10/12/2023 0 Comments Reddit diablo 1 diablo 2 or diablo 3Some time back I actually mulled over making a Diablo 1 total conversion mod for TL2 even. I mean that seriously - if you ever think about wanting a modern Diablo, just go play Torchlight and you'll find out how it is. ![]() Honestly if you just rebuilt the 16 Labyrinth levels, quests and the handful of D1-specific monster types in the D2R engine, reusing the whole item system and champion/unique monster mechanics and all the classes and skills from D2, you'd have a much better game than a true D1 remaster.)Īnd Torchlight had endless dungeon! I think I was understating thing when I said TL is "roughly" how a modern Diablo would feel, because aside from the atmosphere and the art style it's actually exactly how a modern Diablo would feel, Matt Uelman and all. (And I don't just mean single things like running or a stash, I mean the whole class, spell, itemization and monster systems that were all incredibly basic compared to anything that came afterwards. A reboot with updated mechanics, maybe, but not a remaster. It is still thematically quite unique and different from D2, but you can't sell a remaster on thematics alone. There's a difference between Diablo 2 being pretty much the peak of it's genre (or at least the peak among widely-known AAA games) where D3 was a totally different thing with direction changes many people hate, and Diablo 1 which honestly just was mechanically outclassed in every possible way by it's successor. ![]() ![]() It was great for it's time but it did not age well.
